Golf Course Police Chase

A dangerous police chase was caught on camera at a golf course in Moorhead Minnesota.
Police pursued a suspect while people were *still* playing!
The chase finally ended at a mall in North Dakota where a man was arrested for theft and drug charges.
Police are investigating whether that chase should have been called off.

National Zoo Lion Cubs Debut

The four lion cubs at the National Zoo made their public debut today!

The cubs were hanging out with mom in the Great Cats Exhibit.
These little guys are now *14-weeks old*... and should be getting their names in a few weeks.

Baby Food Maker Recall // Graduation Gifts

A baby food maker ... is now being recalled!

Hamilton beach makes the bebe (BEY-BEY) brand baby food maker -- seen here.
There have been reports of it malfunctioning...
The stainless steel pin loosens and falls into processed food when the product is on.
  It was sold at buy buy baby stores and online.
No one has been hurt.

Graduation gifts are PRICEY.
[[VO]]
Americans are set to spend 4.7 *BILLION* dollars on gifts for grads -- according to the national retail federation.
Cash is the most popular option... with more than half of people surveyed saying that's what they plan to give.
Some gift ideas from financial planners include opening an Roth I-R-A account for a recent graduate...
paying part of or all of a students' upcoming loan payment...
or taking the graduate to a financial advisor to learn basic money management.

Trains are running normally again on Metro's red line... after delays during the evening commute.
Trains were single-tracking around the Medical Center station... after a report of fire on the tracks.
The fire caused power to go out at the station around 8 o'clock... and forced people onto buses.
Fire officials say an "arcing insulator" caused the fire.
No one was hurt.

Capital Wheel VIP Grand Opening Ceremony

The Capital Wheel is opening for VIP guests tonight!
[[PAT/LIVE PIC]]
Starting at 7-30 P-M County Executive Baker will be "throwing the switch" for guests to ride 180 feet high for a view of the National Harbor.
There's even a VIP car with glass floors to see how high you really are.
The public will get their chance to ride the wheel tomorrow at 11 A-M.
Each ride costs 15 bucks.

College Debt // Summer Internships

As if the news about Disneyland's price hike weren't bad enough...
*70 percent* of this year's graduating class will leave school *with debt.*
And a lot of it... averaging more than 35-thousand dollars, according to fidelity investments.
The majority of students say... they definitely would have saved more beforehand... had they realized how BAD it would be.

On the bright side...
students who have summer internship experience, may see big pay-offs come graduation day.
according to The Wall Street Journal, researchers sent out ficticious resumes for a number of different jobs, with varying majors.
The resumes with "summer internships" fared better when it came time to get an interview.
Those applications with work experience were 14-percent more likely to score a face to face meeting.

McDonald's has a new menu item that you probably have never tried before...
The chain is testing their new Shakin' Flavor Fries at select U-S locations today.
The flavors include garlic Parmesan, spicy Buffalo or zesty ranch.

A game called "hot or not"... under fire today in Washington state.
it's apparently a spring tradition called "may madness"
Boys use a private Twitter account to vote which girl they think is best looking.
But for the first time -- female students are fighting back and creating t-shirts to "Be Above the Madness."
The school's principal asked for the comments on Twitter to be removed before there are more serious consequences.

Michelle Obama's Brother Fired

Here's another story-- generating a lot of talk this afternoon.
Michelle Obama's brother is out of a job.
[[VO]]

Oregon State fired men's basketball coach Craig Robinson.
He still had three years left on his contract... which means, the school now has to pay him about 4-MILLION dollars.
The university is not saying why he was fired, but in his six seasons with Oregon State -- the team never made it to the NCAA tournament.
No comment yet from the first lady.

According to witnesses-- the shark was actually CHASING a whale through the water...

Target Delivery // Lunar Crash!

Looks like Target is going after Amazon-dot-com.
The superstore is expanding its delivery service... 
For the past few months, Target's been shipping baby products like wipes and diapers... 
But now, the retailer plans to expand delivery service... to include products, ranging from beauty products to pet supplies.

Meantime, a NASA spacecraft crashed into the backside of the moon today.
But it wasn't unexpected.
NASA purposefully scheduled the crash-- because the spacecraft finished its moon mission.
The LADEE (LAH'dee) had been checking out the moon's atmosphere for the last month.
It was a smashing end... literally.
NASA says the space probe likely *vaporized* when it hit.
It had been traveling at about 3-thousand miles per hour.

Prince George's County Graduation Rate Rising

New numbers show Prince George's County high school graduation rates are up and the dropout rate is down.

According to the Maryland State Department of Education, the county's four-year graduation rate increased 1.25 percent in 2013 from 2012. Now, 74 percent of its seniors are graduating.

During the same year, graduation for limited English students saw an increase of 5.5 percent. Hispanic and Latino students rose by 3.5 percent.

Man Charged With Murder Connected To Another Area Crime

A 27-year-old Gaithersburg man has been arrested for allegedly shooting a man and then trying to run him over in Northwest D.C. last weekend.

Police say Jonathan Blades was arrested Wednesday for the shooting and hit and run that took place around 3:30 a.m. Sunday in the 1000 block of 20th Street Northwest.

The victim knew Blade's fiancé and was talking to her after leaving a nearby club that night, News4's Prince George's County Bureau Chief Tracee Wilkins reports. Blades and the victim got into a fight, which led to the shooting.

Brian Mayhew Convicted in 2011 Double Murder

A man was convicted Wednesday in the 2011 shooting deaths of two men in Capitol Heights.

Prosecutors said Brian Mayhew shot and killed Anthony McKelvin and Sean Ellis at a construction site near Rollins Avenue in Seat Pleasant, Md. after stealing Ellis' watches and retrieving approximately $1,500 in cash.

Mayhew was found guilty of first-degree murder and related charges in the deaths of the men and is facing a maximum sentence of life without parole.

Md. Official Charged for Drunken Driving

A Charles County commissioner was charged for driving while impaired on the St. Charles Parkway Thursday night.

Authorities say commissioner Reuben Collins II, who represents the Waldorf, Md. area, was driving his sedan along St. Charles Parkway and Billingsley Road when an officer pulled him over for driving erratically.

Despite Ice, Frozen-Over Lakes Remain Unsafe

Although it looks like Lake Pelham is completely frozen from this bitter winter, Culpeper officials warn that walking on it could be deadly.

Officials said they have noticed foot tracks in the snow on top of frozen Lake Pelham. Some of the tracks extended 100 yards or more onto the 255-acre lake.

Maryland Polar Bear Plunge Rescheduled for March

The tough souls who volunteer to run into icy water (for a good cause, that is) will get their chance to do just that in a couple months.

Organizers of the 18th Annual Maryland Polar Bear Plunge at Sandy Point Park announced Tuesday the event has been rescheduled to March 8.

The plunge was supposed to be held last Saturday, but was postponed because of bitter cold temperatures and high winds.

Mark Howsare Charged in Neighbor's Shooting Death Following Argument

A 62-year-old Stafford County man has been arrested for allegedly shooting his neighbor after he failed to return an air mattress to a local store last weekend.

Investigators say 35-year-old William Conner had gone to a store Sunday evening to return an air mattress for his neighbor, Mark Howsare, but was unable to do so.

D.C. Electronics Store Owner Convicted for Selling Stolen iPhones

A D.C. electronics store owner who was accused of selling hundreds of stolen phones, cameras and laptops at his store's location in Northwest was found guilty Thursday.

According to court documents, D.C. police raided the 12 Volt Mobile Electronics store in the 300 block of H Street NW in 2011 and confiscated thousands of dollars' worth of stolen electronics, including cell phones and electronic guitars. Officers also found Medicare, social security and credit cards.

Carjacker Gets More Than 3 Years in High-Speed Chase

A D.C. man was sentenced to 46 months in prison for carjacking and leading a high-speed chase onto the Baltimore-Washington Parkway.

Prosecutors say 21-year-old Correy Markel Janifer wore a ski mask and pointed a handgun at the driver of a Honda Accord in January 2013. Janifer pistol-whipped the driver and stole the car.

Canadian Woman Gets 10 Years for Traveling to Virginia for Sex With Children

A Canadian woman who traveled to Virginia for the purpose of sexually abusing and raping two children was sentenced to 10 years in prison, prosecutors said.

Theresa Louisa Goddard, 45, pleaded guilty in October after traveling from Vancouver to Dulles International Airport for the purpose of meeting a man and sexually abusing his children, prosecutors said.

Two Women Charged in Md. Man's Death

Prince George’s County Police arrested two suspects in connection with a New Year's Day homicide.

Officers were called to a shooting in the 5500 block of Karen Elaine Drive around 4:30 a.m. last Wednesday. The victim, 28-year-old Vondrell Lemar Smith, was found outside suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He died a short time later.

No Verdict Yet in Prince George's Co. Officer's Death
